What problems are commonly treated with medical acupuncture?
Medical Acupuncture essentially influences three areas:
  • Promotion of health and well-being
  • Prevention of illness
  • Treatment of various medical conditions

The World Health Organization has recognized the use of acupuncture in the treatment of a wide range of medical problems. In fact, following almost 2 decades of review and analysis of published controlled clinical trials of acupuncture (up until early 1999) the World Health Organization published information regarding many diseases and disorders that have been shown to be successfully treated by acupuncture.

While Medical Acupuncture is often associated with pain control, it has much broader applications. It can be effective as the only treatment, or as a support or adjunct to traditional treatment of medical and surgical disorders.

Although this is not an exhaustive list of all conditions in which acupuncture treatment can be beneficial, a sample of commonly treated conditions include:

  • Musculoskeletal injuries / disorders: acute sprains and sports injuries, neck and low back pain, sciatica, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, tendinitis, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia
  • Digestive disorders: gastritis and hyperacidity, spastic colon, constipation, diarrhea, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • ENT & Respiratory disorders: sinusitis, sore throat, bronchitis, asthma, tinnitus
  • Neurological disorders: headaches / migraines, Bells Palsy, carpal tunnel syndrome, shingles, radicular pain and paresthesia
  • Hormonal / gynecological disorders: menstrual abnormalities & PMS, menopausal symptoms (like hot flashes), infertility
  • Emotional / Psychological disorders: depression, anxiety / stress disorders, insomnia
  • Addiction disorders: Smoking cessation, drug / alcohol dependence, food addiction / weight control
  • Oncology: nausea associated with chemotherapy
